Dr. Tuson-Turner

Dr. Tuson-Turner is a licensed naturopathic physician and regenerative medicine specialist in Portland, Oregon. Her clinical practice focuses on chronic pain, functional hormone balancing, pelvic pain, bladder disease (IC, incontinence), pelvic organ prolapse, regenerative injection and IV therapies, ozone therapies, and sexual and reproductive health.

Following undergraduate training in medical anthropology, Dr. Madeleine Tuson-Turner attended the National College of Natural Medicine (now NUNM) and earned a doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine, two master’s degrees in integrative medicine research and global health, and a certificate in natural childbirth. Her residency focused on integrative primary care and regenerative therapies. 

Out of a desire to create equitable sustainable development alongside cooperative global health educational opportunities, Dr. Tuson-Turner has lived and worked in Ghana, West Africa part-time since 2009. During this time, she has worked with the Ghanaian Ministry of Health and the University of Ghana School of Public Health to conduct research on cultural perspectives of health and healing. Her master’s thesis, a mixed-methods research study which she designed and piloted, examined maternal experience of childbirth in Ghana. Her research analyzed factors that influence a woman's perception of her medical care and its relationship to her utilization of integrative therapies. Dr. Tuson-Turner’s current research interests include the ethics of global educational engagement, women’s health, reproductive health justice, and integrative medicine.

Outside of her clinal work she is faculty at the National University of Natural Medicine where she teaches courses in the Naturopathic, Global Health and Integrative Medicine Research departments. She also volunteers her time as the chairperson for the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) Global Health Committee and is an active member of the Research and Education Committees of the World Naturopathic Federation (WNF). 

She is a contributing author to the Health Technology Assessment 2021 volume on Naturopathy: Practice, Effectiveness, Economics and Safety. 

She is a recipient of the Globe Trotter Award from NUNM for her dedication and work establishing relationships and creating lasting partnerships in the field of global health.
